Position Summary
A Designer/Engineer I is responsible for designing intermediate building systems, preparing design documents, and performing engineering calculations in coordination with project teams. They are responsible for occasional task management and mentoring of less experienced designers. Key Responsibilities
Performs calculations and designs basic to intermediate design systems with minimal supervision. Prepares system layouts, detailed drawings, and schematics. Reviews shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications. Prepares or modifies reports, plans, and designs for projects. Performs research and makes recommendations as to the feasibility of systems or equipment; evaluates products for their application. Provides technical guidance to others when appropriate. Collaborates on business development or pursuit activities. Participates in client, company, and/or industry events to build and maintain professional relationships. Fosters a client–centric mindset and approach. Communicates with clients as needed for the development and coordination of requirements and scope of work; maintains proactive communication throughout the project cycle. Answers questions from clients and architects. Visits job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress. Assists in resolving conflicts involving owners, architects, and contractors as needed. Identifies and seeks to fill gaps in industry and/or discipline knowledge on a continuous basis. Maintains knowledge and understanding of industry software, including Revit, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Office products; acts as a resource for training or assisting others as needed. Researches and reviews new products, industry trends, and evolving codes and standards. Understands and applies Henderson's design guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures. Performs a limited range of project‑management responsibilities under the supervision of experienced managers; asks questions when performing unfamiliar tasks. May support or be responsible for project coordination activities such as managing emails, coordinating scope and schedule, attending client meetings, ensuring project quality, responding to client questions, and coordinating project delivery. Consistently performs to a higher standard of industry‑wide expectations associated with carrying a PE license and being enabled as an Engineer of Record (EOR), including making reasonable engineering decisions and delivering the highest quality of work and accountability to projects. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of engineering (e.g., mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural) and 3 years of relevant experience, or 5 years of experience without a degree; a Professional Engineering (PE) license may be counted toward 1 year of direct experience. High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. Intermediate knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides, and standards required; knowledge applicable to a range of practices, project, or program types preferred. Intermediate proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam Revu required. Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred. Completion of FE exam, LEED and/or WELL accreditation preferred. High technical aptitude: ability to learn, understand, and utilize various systems and processes. Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with designers at all levels in a clear and concise manner. Effective critical thinking and problem‑solving skills. Team oriented and willingness and ability to function in a highly collaborative environment; ability to work independently as needed. Adapts to changing work environments, priorities, and organizational needs. Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a dynamic environment. Ability to give and receive constructive feedback and adjust to coaching. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and engineering design software applicable to your discipline or focus. EEO Statement
