Qualifications & Requirements We do not require prior experience in the insurance industry. Around half of our new agents have never worked in insurance, coming from fields such as real estate, retail sales, education, and coaching. What we do require is a motivated attitude, an entrepreneurial spirit, and strong communication skills in a sales atmosphere.
Some sales experience and a degree with general business courses is helpful, but our in‑house and virtual new‑agent training plus ongoing industry education provide the foundation needed to launch your agency.
Potential agents need not have capital or assets; we do not provide loans or sell agencies. Success depends on meeting sales requirements and core business proficiencies.
A true business owner mindset is essential. Responsibilities include developing prospects and selling Shelter products, with the opportunity to bring on staff for general administrative duties to improve sales.
