Position Purpose The Due Diligence Underwriter will specialize in both the credit and compliance portion of the file review. Responsibilities will encompass a thorough review of credit, property, legal documentation, and regulatory compliance.
Ideal Candidate
Experience underwriting both AUS and Jumbo loans.
Proficient in performing complex income analysis with multiple REOs.
Responsibilities
Perform credit and compliance review and testing on closed mortgage files.
Accurately enter applicable data from the loan file into the underwriting platform.
Ensure underwriting guidelines are met; make sure correct decision has been made based upon guidelines (Ratings 1, 2, 3 / A, B, C, D for Credit, Property, Compliance, and Overall Final Rating).
Analyze the loan file for determination of Borrower’s overall credit profile and determination of risk regarding Ability to Repay.
Validate automated exceptions based on your review and provide appropriate recommendations on Findings.
Investigate deviations and red flags found within the loan file and apply applicable findings if appropriate.
Work on special projects as assigned.
Monitor emails and Teams to ensure responsiveness to all inquiries.
Read and respond to audit feedback in a timely manner.
Meet or exceed quality and production expectations.
Contact designated email staffing group to determine next assignment.
Attend and successfully complete all required training courses.
Develop ways to improve current processes and/or provide new services to meet client needs.
Adhere to all Opus CMC policies and procedures.
Perform in a QC Underwriter role when needed based on volume and business requirements.
Expectations
All operation staff must be flexible and be able to move from one client deal to another to meet client delivery expectations as volumes fluctuate.
Employee is to be flexible in their availability to meet the scheduling needs of each client they are assigned to.
Employee is responsible for staying up to date on our security measures and policies to ensure they maintain the highest level of integrity, confidentiality and privacy and all dealings associated with Opus CMC, LLC, its clients, and our clients’ customers personal information.
Employee is to only share PII on a need‑to‑know basis with those authorized to work on the account.

Education, Experience, and Job Skills
Some College preferred or prior work experience equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years mortgage industry experience.
Minimum 3 years’ experience underwriting residential mortgage loans.
Minimum 2 years of mortgage due diligence underwriting experience preferred.
Strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and ask for assistance / elevate when needed.
Able to work constructively under stress and pressure and perform tasks efficiently.
Ability to adapt to changing requirements and new processes.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to draw conclusions based on objective‑based facts.
Proficient in basic computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Knowledge and experience with AUS reports, manual underwriting, and Agency Guidelines.
General knowledge of mortgage industry regulatory requirements.
Confidence performing complex income analysis with multiple businesses and REOs.
