City of Kingman – Construction Inspector – Engineering We’re seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Engineering team and support public works construction projects throughout the City of Kingman. This role performs field inspection and documentation work to ensure construction activities comply with approved plans, specifications, codes, and standards. The position works under the general guidance of the Construction Inspection Supervisor, Assistant City Engineer, or City Engineer and does not supervise others.

About You

High school diploma or GED.

At least two (2) years of related experience in engineering or public works construction inspection, including materials testing of soils, concrete, and asphalt.

At least one (1) year of related technical or college coursework in Algebra, Trigonometry, Physics, Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field (preferred).

Ability to obtain at least two (2) required certifications within one year of hire (ATTI, ATTSA, ACI, ADEQ, NICET, or APWA).

Valid Arizona Driver’s License or ability to obtain prior to employment.

Working knowledge of inspection methods, construction standards, safety requirements, and traffic control.

Ability to read and interpret construction plans, perform required mathematical computations, prepare inspection records, and communicate technical information clearly.

Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.

Construction Inspection & Compliance (55%) Inspect and approve public and private construction activities involving streets, utilities, water and sewer lines, storm drains, and related infrastructure to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, and regulations. Identify deficiencies, issue correction notices or approvals, and ensure workmanship, structural soundness, and aesthetics meet required standards.

Documentation, Records & Reporting (20%) Maintain daily field diaries, inspection logs, and records related to construction activities. Compile inspection data and prepare construction reports, including documentation required for ADEQ testing of water and sewer lines.

Coordination, Communication & Public Interaction (15%) Provide information and respond to inquiries from contractors, property owners, City staff, and the public regarding assigned public works projects. Coordinate with engineering staff and other departments while exercising independent judgment across multiple active job sites.

Traffic, Safety & Field Support (10%) Verify proper placement and use of traffic control devices in accordance with MUTCD standards. Conduct traffic counts, maintain traffic data and equipment, and ensure OSHA and traffic control protocols are in place prior to and during inspections to protect public safety and prevent hazards or property damage.
