Bridge BIM/CAD Specialist
Position at HDR in South Carolina (Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, or Fort Mill). Join an employee‑owned firm that values inclusion and is dedicated to transforming transportation infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Prepare detailed drawings, layouts, and sketches for concrete and steel bridges, retaining walls, and miscellaneous structures using computer‑aided design software.
Develop detailed drawings for complex concrete and steel bridges, including prestressed concrete, cast‑in‑place concrete, steel plate girder, segmental, cable‑stayed, and box culvert bridges.
Work independently with guidance from supervisors and engineers.
Demonstrate strong attention to detail.
Support the development of 3‑D bridge models.
Prepare engineering drawings of plans, elevations, cross sections, and details from rough sketches or general engineering design information according to established standards.
Organize and perform tasks necessary to complete assigned projects with minimal supervision.
Use MicroStation and ProjectWise following internal or client‑driven CAD standards.
Verify that current client standard drawings and detailing manuals are being used.
Prepare bridge layouts and details with minimal supervision or as directed by project engineers and designers.
Detail plan sheets for retaining walls, sound walls, culverts, bridges, and other highway transportation facilities.
Set up project border files, reference (base) files, etc.
Actively promote and contribute to the successful completion of projects from initial concept through planning to implementation.
Compile data and perform dimensional and routine calculations required for drawing preparation.
Complete redlines for modification of existing plans and notes, or prepare new details or design elements with minimal direction from engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology.
Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office.
Experience in bridge structural drafting.
Experience with BIM, OBM, or other 3‑D CAD software.
Knowledge of SCDOT CAD Standards and other DOT standards (plus).
Preference given to local candidates.
Required Qualifications
Technical degree or a minimum of 3 years of related industry experience.
Technically qualified with 3‑D design software and document management infrastructure.
Competency of Microsoft Office products and communication tools.
Experience with 3‑D coordination tools.
Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and organizational traits.
Intermediate understanding of engineering or architectural concepts.
