Zoological Specialist (Senior 1 Level)
SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment is seeking an experienced zoological specialist to support our animal care programs. Applicants must have a minimum of five years (10,400 hours) of professional zoological experience at an AZA‑approved facility. The role requires strong communication skills, a passion for animal conservation, and a commitment to providing exceptional guest experiences.
Responsibilities
Administer daily husbandry tasks, including vitamins, medications, and food preparation.
Maintain a safe, sanitary, and organized animal habitat and work area.
Observe animal behavior, report abnormalities, and keep accurate animal records.
Support educational presentations and general guest programs, engaging guests with clear, enthusiastic communication.
Collaborate with the animal care team to implement behavioral modification techniques as instructed.
Perform cleaning duties, including the safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
Adhere to SeaWorld’s safety guidelines and park policies at all times.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum of 12 months (2,080 hours) of professional zoological experience; preferred 5 years (10,400 hours).
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Psychology, or a related field is preferred.
Scuba certification and the ability to pass a dive physical are required for marine mammal training; CPR certification is mandatory.
Strong verbal communication skills; ability to speak to large groups and present to guests on stage.
Valid state driver’s license; ability to obtain a company driver’s license.
Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs.; extensive walking, standing, and climbing may be required.
Work flexible schedules, including opening, mid‑day, and closing shifts; nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat.
Experience with AZA or equivalent zoological animal care experience is required.
