Early Career Civil Roadway Engineer

Overview As an Early Career Civil Roadway Engineer you will support the Transportation & Infrastructure Team in the design, development, construction, and documentation of road, bridge and water supply projects. Activities include data collection, research, basic design assistance and site investigations under general supervision.

Responsibilities

Collect, compile, and analyze field data, surveys, blueprints, GIS, geotechnical reports, and other project documents to aid design and construction.

Conduct research and inspections of site conditions, building components, and transportation channels to ensure compliance with applicable rules and standards.

Assist in the production of accurate, concise documentation—drawings, reports, and work logs—using electronic systems.

Support routine engineering functions and provide technical assistance on design and construction requirements.

Verify site characteristics and assist in resolving engineering, design, and construction challenges.

Adhere to safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures, including data collection, documentation, and construction practices.

Complete training on assigned tasks and perform additional responsibilities as needed by business requirements.

Exercise responsible, ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and conduct in line with WSP’s Code of Conduct.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.

0–1 years of post‑education experience.

Excellent research skills and an analytical mindset.

Familiarity with design‑build processes and civil construction codes, laws, and regulations.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non‑engineering audiences.

Self‑leadership, attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.

Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team.

Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, spreadsheets, and engineering software.

Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and non‑discrimination policies.

Flexibility to accommodate project‑specific schedules and occasional travel.

Preferred Qualifications

Engineer‑in‑Training certification.

Experience with discipline‑specific design software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS tools).

Relevant internship experience in civil engineering.

Active membership in local professional organizations.
