Position Overview
The Senior Tax Manager in the Closely Held Business (Construction) Practice oversees technical review, tax compliance, and consultative services for complex construction-related businesses. This includes researching and resolving tax issues, reviewing industry-specific matters such as construction tax accounting methods, lookback calculations, and percentage-of-completion accounting, supervising the tax team, managing workflows, and fostering strong client relationships. This leadership role plays a vital part in staff development and firm growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and sustain strong, end-to-end customer relationships with construction and closely held business clients.
- Apply deep knowledge of construction-related tax matters, including accounting methods, lookback calculations, and percentage-of-completion requirements.
- Proactively advise clients on a wide range of complex tax issues.
- Communicate engagement progress, challenges, and solutions directly to customers.
- Develop and expand a strong business network with colleagues, referral partners, prospects, and community organizations.
- Continuously enhance technical knowledge and support team development.
- Hold yourself and others accountable for meeting business development goals.
- Recruit, mentor, and motivate tax team members, building a robust pipeline of ready-now leaders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Law; Master’s in Tax/LLM preferred.
- 7+ years of recent public accounting experience serving construction and closely held businesses.
- CPA certification required.
- Strong project and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and networking abilities.
- Ability to manage and grow strong client relationships.
- Proficiency with tax software and technology.
- Ability to multitask and commitment to continuous learning.
