Save Job

Company:

Qualcomm Incorporated

Job Area:

Information Technology Group, Information Technology Group > IT Management

General Summary:

We’re looking for a hands‑on IT Director/Chief Architect to own the strategy and end‑to‑end operation of our global EDA engineering compute estate —covering HPC grids , intelligent job & license scheduling , utilization analytics , observability , and data protection/access controls for high‑value engineering IP. You’ll set technical standards, make architecture decisions (ADRs), and lead a multiyear modernization across on‑prem clusters and cloud burst.

What you’ll do

  • Grid & scheduler architecture. Define the target state for multi‑scheduler operations (e.g., LSF plus Altair or Slurm), queue/Fairshare models, job submission APIs, session/pipeline scheduling, and guardrails for high availability and performance.
  • License orchestration. Integrate license scheduling and policy/rusage governance to reduce denials, increase throughput and fairness, and simplify cross‑cluster feature management.
  • Telemetry & observability. Build a converged metrics/logs/traces stack (e.g., Prometheus/Grafana and/or commercial APM) with SLOs, high‑signal alerting, canaries, and auto‑remediation (throttles, host quarantine, routing).
  • Utilization analytics. Productize dashboards and decision systems (utilization, wait times, storage I/O, capacity/forecasting) that drive investments and continuous optimization.
  • Data protection & access. Lead engineering IP classification and least‑privilege access patterns; implement enclave/containment and monitoring/audit pipelines to prevent IP contamination while enabling collaboration.
  • Hybrid HPC. Establish patterns for cloud execution (images/tooling, data locality, object storage, cost & performance visibility), then graduate pilots to production—safely and economically.
  • People & execution. Lead managers/architects/SREs; run weekly ops and a predictable change cadence; partner tightly with design/CAD teams, security, finance/procurement, and vendors.

What you’ll bring

  • Depth in EDA/HPC at scale (mission‑critical grids running multi‑vendor EDA flows).
  • Mastery of scheduler design & operations (LSF required; Altair/Slurm a plus), license scheduling, queue/fairshare policy, wrappers/pre‑execs, and migration/dual‑run strategies.
  • Proven observability leadership (SLIs/SLOs, alert fidelity, runbooks, self‑healing) and hands‑on experience with Prometheus/Grafana and/or enterprise APM.
  • Experience with analytics stacks (e.g., ClickHouse/Tableau or similar) and KPI‑driven capacity/forecasting.
  • Strong foundation in data protection for engineering IP (classification, DRM/RBAC, enclaves, monitoring/audits) and working across security/legal.
  • Executive communication, vendor/contract governance, and a track record of developing high‑performing technical teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of IT‑related work experience with a Bachelor's degree OR 10+ years of IT‑related work experience without a Bachelor's degree.
  • 5+ years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • 3+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., VP level and above).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in an IT-related field.
  • Mastery of scheduler design & operations (LSF required; Altair/Slurm a plus), license scheduling, queue/fairshare policy, wrappers/pre‑execs, and migration/dual‑run strategies.
  • Proven observability leadership (SLIs/SLOs, alert fidelity, runbooks, self‑healing) and hands‑on experience with Prometheus/Grafana and/or enterprise APM.
  • Experience with analytics stacks (e.g., ClickHouse/Tableau or similar) and KPI‑driven capacity/forecasting.
  • Strong foundation in data protection for engineering IP (classification, DRM/RBAC, enclaves, monitoring/audits) and working across security/legal.
  • Executive communication, vendor/contract governance, and a track record of developing high‑performing technical teams.

Pay range $186,600.00 - $280,000.00
