Assistant Director, ESIA Annual Giving

University Advancement (UA) is seeking an Assistant Director, ESIA Alumni Relations and Annual Giving for the George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs (ESIA).

Job Overview

University Advancement is responsible for leading the university’s alumni and fundraising efforts and promotes a culture of philanthropy throughout the community. The Assistant Director serves as the primary liaison between the Elliott School and its alumni, parents and friends. Reporting to the Director of Constituent Engagement and Annual Giving, ESIA, this position partners with deans, faculty, and advancement staff to meet fundraising goals, execute events, steward volunteers, and build affinity for philanthropic priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director in developing and executing events to engage alumni and parents, identifying and cultivating prospects, and stewarding existing donors; develop marketing and tracking of programs.
  • Coordinate with GW’s central‑led annual giving program to identify, plan and execute additive annual giving strategies to increase retention, volunteer giving and participation in Giving Day.
  • Develop school‑specific messaging and support for marketing and outreach (direct mail, e‑mail, social media) to build a pool of non‑MGO prospects through targeted communications.
  • Maintain outreach to the school’s annual giving and lapsed donors to meet team metrics in donor retention and dollars raised; analyze and report on benchmarking, ROI and metrics.
  • Manage stewardship efforts through weekly donor acknowledgment process: review gift journal, draft thank‑you letters and cards, maintain records.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization, conferred by start date (or equivalent combination of education, training, experience).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest or experience in international affairs.
  • Willingness to make cold calls with donors/prospects.
  • Ability to build rapport and cultivate relationships with new and existing donors.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally, work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Capability to handle sensitive/confidential information appropriately.
  • Excellent time‑management skills to plan and implement multiple priorities while managing diverse personalities.

Hiring Range

$45,925.13 – $63,191.56
