Tax Managing Director, Family Office Services
Location: San Francisco, CA
Join BDO USA as a Tax Managing Director overseeing the Private Client & Family Office Services practice.
Role Overview
Provides overall direction and oversight for the PCS‑FOS Practice, including business development, practice development, client management, and ensuring consistency with the firm’s philosophy.
Responsibilities
- Lead the full‑life cycle of all assigned engagements, providing technical expertise throughout finance and accounting.
- Identify opportunities for technological and process improvements, build business cases, and implement changes across the practice.
- Facilitate discovery meetings with large and complex clients, develop integrated solutions, and determine cost and value of solutions.
- Advise client leadership on technical accounting issues, financial policies, and change management processes.
- Maintain strong client relationships, identify new business opportunities, and manage the sales pipeline.
- Develop and mentor PCS‑FOS management and staff, ensuring training in analytics, forecasting, and relevant software.
- Oversee practice management functions: billing, collections, P&L, forecasting, and Net Promoter Scores.
- Conduct research on complex tax and accounting issues and develop strategies to improve client outcomes.
- Travel up to 25% of the time.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent experience) and ten (10) or more years of general accounting experience; or twelve (12) or more years of experience with supervisory and business advisory experience without a degree.
- Consultative or business advisory experience.
- Six (6) or more years of supervisory experience.
- CPA certification (preferred).
- Advanced degree in Accounting or MBA (preferred).
Experience & Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects and teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and industry standard accounting software (e.g., Intuit QuickBooks Online, Microsoft NAV, Bill.com).
- Experience with BDODrive platform, SEI Archway, and Qvinchi (preferred).
- Knowledge of GAAP, tax regulations, and financial statement presentation.
- High analytical and research skills.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to drive progress.
- Travel availability up to 25%.
Compensation
National range: $130,000 – $225,000. Specific range may vary based on location and qualifications.
