The Art Director is responsible for leading the University’s strategic branding efforts and standards, including the voice, image, and tone of creative materials, ensuring the consistency and validity of the brand position and strategic approach.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Serve as the University’s brand manager
Manage cross-functional creative services team to bring integrated marketing solutions together with the brand to elevate the brand image
Confidently present, and ensure the complete marketing team presents, the institutional brand to the public and internal community while maintaining consistency across media channels
Work with SVP in tracking/adjusting the university brand position messaging and image
Build partnerships with university clients/partners to develop effective marketing solutions that leverage the university brand; specifically, will confer with clients to determine objectives, budget, background information, and presentation approaches, styles, and techniques
Provide creative leadership to print and electronic design staff
Provide campaign direction for flagship projects from inception to completion, translating the brand to print and electronic media with consistency and relevancy
Take on design projects as necessary and needed
Translate marketing data into strategy
Present and confidently explain creative ideas, rationale, and strategy
Manage the creative process and brand image
Multitask in a deadline-driven environment providing creative leadership and project assignments for multidisciplinary team members including workflow management
Provide expertise and articulation around advertising, marketing, and direct response trends
Manage creative services department day-to-day operations including department workflow, vendor relationships, photography and videography, internships, student workers, and freelance assistance
Work with SVP to establish and manage department budgets, staff utilization and overall direction of brand message
Perform other site and position specific functions as assigned
Required Skills
Background and knowledge of marketing including creative development and design
Ability to work with internal constituents as well as external vendors
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Mac platform
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Premiere, and/or Final Cut Pro
Budget monitoring and management skills
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree in communication, Marketing, Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or equivalent education/experience
Minimum 10 years’ experience in a professional design/creative environment
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
Able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
Understanding of University brand and how to communicate that brand to others
Ability to lead and manage multiple priorities
Work Environment
May require extended periods of time at a keyboard and screen in addition to hours outside the normal working schedule.
