About The Role We’re seeking a

Hockey Annotation & Analysis Expert

to help refine AI understanding of real‑world hockey footage. You’ll work with advanced video models to ensure that the AI correctly recognizes player movements, plays, and outcomes in professional and amateur hockey games. This is a hands‑on, detail‑oriented role ideal for someone with

deep knowledge of hockey gameplay —whether from playing, coaching, officiating, scouting, or analytical work.

Responsibilities

Review and refine AI‑generated hockey video annotations, including play events, zone entries, transitions, shots, and defensive actions.

Label and validate events such as passes, shots on goal, faceoffs, hits, goalie saves, penalties, turnovers, and scoring sequences.

Verify timing accuracy between video clips and described actions (e.g., shot release, puck contact, save moment, body check).

Ensure contextual precision, identifying subtle differences (e.g., deflection vs. screen shot, takeaway vs. unforced error, scoring chance quality).

Provide structured, objective feedback to improve AI understanding of hockey‑specific terminology and situational play.

Collaborate asynchronously with researchers and engineers to enhance model training data quality.

Qualifications Must‑Have

Deep familiarity with hockey—through playing, coaching, refereeing, scouting, video analysis, or analytics experience.

Solid understanding of rules, player positioning, systems, and play terminology (e.g., forecheck systems, breakout patterns, power plays, penalty kills).

High attention to detail and ability to describe hockey sequences precisely and consistently.

Comfortable working independently on remote data annotation platforms.

Preferred

Prior experience with AI training, data labeling, or video annotation tools.

Recognition or certification in hockey (e.g., USA Hockey coaching/officiating certification, collegiate or junior‑level experience).

Experience with sports analytics or video review systems, such as Hudl, Instat, SportsCode, or NHL Edge/advanced tracking tools.
