Summary Full‑time Park Maintenance Specialist responsible for planting and maintenance of turf, repair of parks and recreation facilities, and assisting with special events.

Responsibilities

Maintain, inspect, repair, lubricate, and clean equipment and tools per manufacturer specifications and city policies.

Assist in emergency operations such as snow removal and storm damage call‑outs.

Perform turf management tasks at parks, athletic fields, facilities, and traffic islands.

Lay sod and operate equipment—including string‑line trimmers, ride‑on, walk‑behind, and push mowers—and load/unload and transport mowers.

Pick up and dispose of trash in and around parks and traffic islands; lift trash barrels and dump contents into the truck.

Operate tractors for seeding, fertilizing, and aerating turf areas; seed and fertilize using walk‑behind and ride‑on spreaders; calibrate equipment to apply correct amounts.

Apply pesticides using appropriate sprayers or spreaders, following safety procedures, weather conditions, SDS information, and product labeling.

Prepare ball fields for league play, including dragging, chalking, and moving bases.

Clean parks, right‑of‑way, and shop area; sweep and remove debris.

Assist with irrigation testing, minor adjustments, diagnosis, and repairs.

Work the required days and hours, be available during regular business hours, and communicate with subordinates, supervisors, customers, vendors, and other stakeholders.

Maintain punctuality, meet attendance standards, and adhere to performance requirements.

Requirements

Basic education or equivalent experience.

Valid class A or B commercial driver's license with air‑brake endorsement within 6 months of employment.

Pesticide applicator license categories 3A and 3B preferred but not required.

Experience

Six months to one year of turf/grounds maintenance, including operation of mowing equipment, power tools, utility vehicles, sprayers, and hand tools.

Skills

Project management skills, including organization, coordination, and goal accomplishment.

Time management skills, able to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.

Travel and tour city facilities and parks in adverse conditions.

Traverse rough terrain.

Operate power and hand tools and city vehicles.

Work in confined spaces; have hand‑and‑eye coordination for computer input.

Exposure to chemicals, fumes, dust, sprays, fogs, mists, heights, vibrations, high voltage, and loud noises.

Work in adverse and extreme weather and environmental conditions.

Make and receive phone calls.
