The Research Investment for Global Health Technology Foundation (RIGHT Foundation, https://rightfoundation.kr/en/) is a research funding agency dedicated to supporting global health research and development (R&D) through a three‑way partnership among the Government of Korea, the Gates Foundation and life science companies.
The RIGHT Foundation (hereinafter “the Foundation”), which aims to advance global health equity and supports the development of essential health technologies as global public goods, is seeking a new Executive Director to successfully lead the organization toward high‑impact growth by expanding and strengthening its R&D funding initiatives.
Position The Executive Director is a senior leadership position requiring a comprehensive understanding of the Foundation’s business model, combined with proven capabilities in strategic communication and stakeholder engagement across both internal and external domains. This role supports the Board of Directors in establishing the Foundation’s strategy and direction and is responsible for making key decisions to achieve the organizational goals. Additionally, the Executive Director leads and oversees day‑to‑day operations of the Secretariat and is responsible for the Foundation’s overall strategic and operational performance.
The Foundation is seeking a leader who can foster trust‑based relationships with both stakeholders and employees and consistently secure the resources and support necessary to achieve its mission and goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Development and Effective Communication of the Foundation’s Vision, Mission, and Strategy
Lead the development and refinement of the Foundation's vision, mission, and strategic / operational planning
Lead the comprehensive advocacy efforts for the foundation, building and maintaining strong international partnerships across the public health, life science industry, non‑profit organizations, and government organizations
Expand advocacy efforts to enhance public awareness of the Foundation and its mission
Lead the execution of strategic plans and management of projects to achieve the Foundation’s goals
Develop and implement the Foundation’s investment strategies based on research and analysis of international and domestic R&D trends
Manage and oversee fund operations and business activities, including monitoring of milestones of projects, and planning / execution / evaluation of results
Issue requests for proposals that align with the Foundation’s mission and strategic priorities, oversee project evaluation and selection process, lead negotiation and funding agreements, and develop strategic investment portfolios
Recruit, retain, and foster highly qualified professionals, and ensure the cultivation of a mission‑driven organizational culture
Ensure efficient and strategic management of the budget and strict compliance with applicable laws to achieve the Foundation’s goals
Expand funding to ensure operational sustainability
Expand international and domestic collaboration networks and manage relationships with key stakeholders
Secure additional funding from the existing partners and increase contributions from new funders
Provide periodic and ad hoc reports to funding partners and communicate these reports effectively
Expected Core Competencies
Expertise and strong commitment to global public health and health equity initiatives
Extensive knowledge and practical experience in infectious diseases, healthcare R&D, product development & regulatory affairs, and Official Development Assistance (ODA)
Scientific expertise and experience in project evaluation and management related to vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics
Strong analytical capabilities for rigorous evaluation of R&D projects and effective management of investment portfolios
Leadership in organizational management and ability to secure and expand funding through both private and public sector engagements
Capacity to establish and maintain collaborative networks and communications with a wide range of stakeholders including domestic and international industry, government, public and private sectors
Qualifications
Education Requirements
Postgraduate degree in life sciences (Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Public Health, etc.), health (Policy, Management, etc.), Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics
Related Work Experience
At least 10 years of experience in global health focused enterprises-including public private partnerships, life sciences industry, and fund management-or in health related areas such as health policy development
Proven leadership experience in above enterprises with additional experience in humanitarian service organizations, public/non‑profit organizations, grant‑making agencies, investment funds, scientific research institutions, digital sciences and/or digital health (preferred)
Language/Nationality
Must be fluent in both Korean and English
Open to all nationalities (work experience in Korea is preferred)
