The Peer Specialist monitors clients, provides peer support services individually and in a group setting. Transports them for treatment, communicates and documents all occurrences, and helps to provide a safe, caring environment in which the clients can recover. Requires maintaining a positive, productive attitude, even when clients may be argumentative or non-compliant. In addition, certify clients and staff as peer support specialist.

Responsibilities

Facilitate curriculum-based peer support groups

Certify applicable staff and clients as peer support specialist

Maintain compliance with peer support specialist training certification and credentialing

Monitor/supervise clients at all times. IE: Recovery Community, 12 step meetings, gym, outside activities, Outpatient Clinic, wherever and whenever you are in the presence of active program participants.

Follows the direction and guidance of the supervisor on duty.

Ensure that clients adhere to program/facility rules.

Support & Intervention - verbally support clients as needed in times of confusion, discontent, and disappointment, helping them to understand the value of the treatment experience while maintaining appropriate boundaries. De‑escalation of situations through nonviolent crisis interventions and personal commitment to their wellbeing.

Transport clients and/or staff to and from a variety of destinations at the direction and discretion of your immediate supervisor or designee.

Works as part of a highly communicative treatment team and supports staff in promoting treatment goals and values of the Axiom Care program

Complete documentation in the electronic medical record of: activities, interventions, client contact, client staffing and progress towards treatment goals

Supervision is defined as observing and directing the clients while they are in our program. While at our facilities, peer support must provide them with a safe environment, in which they recover, as it is an essential aspect to our helping them. As a peer support, you are the lead role model in our clients’ lives, your standard of living must be kept at a level for which they will strive. You must always maintain a professional attitude, refrain from the use of profanity, refrain from speaking in a de‑meaning or belittling way with clients, maintain a healthy boundary, and work positively with other members of the team. Always come from a position of care and concern with the clients’ best interest in mind.

Requirements Education and Experience

Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record, as determined by BBC’s insurance carrier

Must be 25 years of age (requirement in order to drive company vans)

Knowledge of Windows, basic email, Microsoft Word, timekeeping software, and basic computer navigational skills.

Shift Flexibility

Team player

Professional and/or personal experience with substance abuse treatment highly preferred

Active CPR and First Aid certification required (may be provided by BBC).

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
