ABOUT SPEEDBOAT SPEEDBOAT is a Hollywood-based atelier established in 2019. At the heart of our practice is an authentic, unmediated connection to history, theory, labor, and materiality, and the broader context of the city.

Bootstrapped from the start, we maintain architecture, design, and construction divisions, managing residential, commercial, and cultural projects in Los Angeles and beyond. We combine the best of a boutique firm and a corporate company—recognized by our peers as one of the most organized and structured studios in our class. We maintain the highest standards for our clients and for each other. Mentorship and upward mobility are core to our practice, and our culture emphasizes direct feedback, sustained professional growth, and creating an environment where colleagues learn from one another and thrive.

THE ROLE We are seeking a Construction Director to lead field operations for our construction division. We're looking for an accomplished construction manager with a carpentry background and a demonstrated history of excellence in commercial construction and high‑end residential work who can balance project delivery excellence with business development, bring an existing network of clients and trade partners, and deliver results.

This is a field leadership role. You will oversee project delivery from the ground up, managing site superintendents, project coordinators, and trade partners while maintaining close communication with owners, architects, and their representatives. You should be deeply familiar with project management, cost control, and contract management, and be capable of building and leading teams that deliver exceptional work.

This role is for someone who remains hungry and ambitious, with a resume demonstrating professional excellence aligned with our brand. It’s ideal for someone who wants to focus on the craft of building within a branded studio with design integrity, rather than managing the challenges of going it alone. You’ll have the infrastructure and resources of SPEEDBOAT behind you, the opportunity to work across architecture, design, and construction divisions, and growing decision‑making authority as you build the team.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, who brings energy and momentum to managing multiple concurrent projects in a busy urban context, and who is energized rather than drained by the pace and intensity of this work.

We have wonderful clients with great projects in Altadena, Pasadena, Silver Lake, and beyond. We seek individuals interested in building for permanence, bringing curiosity and optimism to their work, with the spirit of a true builder—close to construction, to the earth, the light, the air.
