Director of New Accounts Position Description To help understand how this role fits into our client experience, here is how our sales team is structured at Magellan Promotions:

Director of New Accounts – Leads the acquisition of best‑fit new clients and ensures a successful onboarding experience that maximizes first‑year integration. Introduces prospects to our expertise, the power of strategic branded merch, and what makes Magellan unique to position us as their preferred partner.

Client Strategist – Ensures clients have successful long‑term growth. This includes consults with clients, sharing creative solutions for key projects and ensuring client satisfaction.

Account Manager – Leads execution for client projects, coordinating with Client Strategist, Project Coordinator, and Fulfillment to ensure accurate quoting, exceptional service, and smooth project completion.

Project Coordinator – Supports clients through managing active client projects, from quoting through delivery. In addition, supports the Account Manager on quoting new projects and other assigned projects.

The Director of New Accounts role leads an organized and thoughtful campaign to set meetings with new and potential clients. These meetings can be before the client has ordered or shortly after their first order. Since we work nationwide, the majority of these meetings are done via Zoom. There will be times when this position will travel to meet with prospects and new clients in person.

For meetings to be successful, the Director of New Accounts needs to understand the client’s challenges and match our unique value proposition to their needs. This is achieved through having a thorough understanding of higher ed and Magellan’s proposition and services. The ability to ask insightful questions that uncover needs, challenges, and opportunities during client conversations will be imperative to success.

In general, there are three types of contacts that this role interacts with:

New to us – These contacts are not already in our CRM. These contacts can come from connecting at a conference or from reaching out through our website.

Aware of us – Contacts that are already in our CRM but have not yet ordered from us. An example is a contact that we met at a previous conference that has not yet ordered.

New client – For the first 12 months after an initial order, this role works to effectively onboard clients and works to put us in a position to integrate together quickly.

Potential new clients come into our radar through a number of pathways, including:

Conferences – Magellan Promotions has a booth at four to six conferences annually. This role will often attend these conferences.

Licensees – When Magellan Promotions becomes licensed with a new college, there are key departments that we target.

Web – We receive online orders/inquiries through our website.

To help make this role successful, the Director of New Accounts collaborates and works closely with the Client Strategists and Marketing team.

This position may be fully remote for the right candidate. This role reports to the Sales and Marketing Manager.

Metrics The success of this position is measured through sales growth of new clients. Sales growth will be calculated based on each new client’s sales during the 12 months following their first order.

Training Over the course of the first 30 days, this role will be exposed to all parts of the business. The purpose of this is to learn:

How we differentiate ourselves in the marketplace

What is important to our clients

How we operate

What each role does and meeting team members

In the first 90 days, this role will focus on our value proposition, our target clients’ challenges and how we help solve them. After this period, we will continue to provide training opportunities as the role starts to directly interact with clients.

Qualifications and Attributes A successful hire will have a history that includes at least four years of successfully gaining and building a sizable new client base in a B2B environment.

Magellan Promotions offers a competitive salary and performance‑related bonus. This is a salary plus bonus position. The salary is based on applicable experience.

Magellan Promotions currently operates under a four‑day work week (we call it “Seas the Day”). What this means is that typically this position works 8‑9 hours Monday through Thursday and has Fridays as a flex day.
