Tax Senior, State and Local Tax – Unclaimed Property JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Tax Senior in the State and Local Tax (SALT) Unclaimed Property practice, you will apply industry knowledge and experience to advise clients on tax implications and accounting matters related to unclaimed property compliance and consulting. This role blends client interaction, project management, regulatory analysis, and communication with state authorities.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct research on complex tax issues; analyze facts and sources; produce detailed reports.

Develop and maintain relationships with in‑state and out‑of‑state Department of Tax/Revenue personnel and Department of Treasury officials.

Gather, manipulate, validate, and reconcile client data to prepare annual escheat returns using tools such as FSI Track and BDO Global Portal.

Identify appropriate exemptions/deferrals, perform reconciliations, and draft responses to state notices.

Assist with due‑diligence letters, client payment processing, and exam support.

Draft memoranda, opinions and other documentation on escheat issues.

Work with Unclaimed Property leadership to establish escheat planning processes, policies and procedures.

Represent clients in audits, voluntary disclosures, and other engagements, mitigating exposure and recommending best practices.

Lead consulting engagements, manage client expectations, prepare schedules, and develop exposure models.

Utilize tax research databases and GL systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, AS/400, Epicor, etc.), and participate in technology enhancements.

Supervise and mentor SALT associates, review work products, and facilitate performance feedback.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance.

Two or more years’ experience in tax, financial statement auditing or forensic accounting at a public accounting firm or in‑house organization.

Preferred: CPA, attorney, or IRS Enrolled Agent (or equivalent).

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word); experience with Power BI, Alteryx, or similar software is a plus.

Excellent verbal and written communication, advanced analytical and research skills.

Strong organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Ability to manage multiple projects, delegate tasks, and build client relationships.

Executive presence and capacity to act as primary contact on engagements.

Salary Range National: $73,500 – $131,250 per year.
