Director, Senior Wealth Credit Risk Manager

Overview The Senior Portfolio Credit Risk Manager is a senior management-level position responsible for managing a Citi Global Wealth credit portfolio within an assigned geographic scope through the management of a team. This role requires strong commercial awareness and is an acknowledged authority within its area of expertise, with a thorough understanding of strategic direction and risk appetite. Excellent communication skills are required to negotiate and influence at a senior level. The position reports to a C16 role and functions as an integral member of the functional leadership team within a country/site location, sub region, job family, or line of business.
Responsibilities
Lead a team/organization responsible for risk management activities associated with the Citi Global Wealth credit portfolio of the assigned geographic scope.
Analyze credit risk and provide credit recommendations and guidance to senior risk managers.
Apply understanding of inherent credit risks for a range of banking products including lending and capital markets transactions.
Interact, review and provide credible challenge to first-line Bankers and Product Specialists on client credit requests; approve as applicable wholesale credit loan/counterparty transactions presented by the business, taking into consideration all aspects of credit decision including applicable policies, quantitative and qualitative factors.
Analyze transactions and assist in structuring transactions to contain Citi’s credit risk within acceptable parameters.
Produce credit and exposure analyses to ensure aggregate risk exposure to customers remains appropriate to credit standing.
Manage regional and other key Risk reviews including assessment of quality of assigned portfolios, product programs, emerging risks, and effectiveness of control processes.
Assess effectiveness of credit risk processes, product programs and standards of assigned entities to promote leading practices and identify opportunities for improvement.
Review and assess the appropriateness, completeness and usage trends of the credit risk components for the assigned portfolios.
Provide autonomous assessment of the accuracy and appropriateness of risk ratings and classifications of the assigned portfolios.
Assess business/risk staffing models to ensure appropriate resources for assigned entities.
Ensure that corrective action plans for assigned businesses are appropriate, monitored and validated addressing concerns resulting from Fundamental Credit Risk reviews.
Assist the Regional and/or Global Risk Head on regional and/or global tasks as deemed required.
Infer the diverse opinions of Sr. Management and Regulators to effectively address all issues applicable to area of responsibility.
Provide support on assigned tasks related to managing relationships, expectations and deliverables for outside regulators, ARR, IA, Regulatory reporting, Risk, Finance and Accounting Policy.
Partner with applicable stakeholders to understand source of data and improve process of defining, extracting and utilizing data applicable to perform the function.
Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to policy, applying ethical judgment and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Manage team delivering a consistent, goal‑oriented, and sophisticated process of credible challenge to correspond 1st line stakeholders.
Identify credit risks, processes, trends, emerging risks and training needs within credit underwriting and risk management.
Perform other duties and functions as assigned.
Qualifications
15+ years prior experience in a credit‑related, risk management or banking role, in Wealth or Wholesale Risk or business functions.
Must have credit background and management experience.
Excellent quantitative, analytical, written and verbal presentation skills.
Ability to communicate and negotiate effectively.
Exercises effective people management skills.
Demonstrate advanced analytical skills and the ability to assimilate complex information.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and presentation skills.
Ability to operate independently, deliver under tight timeframes, manage multiple complex and conflicting activities, adapt to change in a fast‑paced environment.
Strong background in risk decisioning across risk stripes, ability to network, manage conflict with the business, while maintaining strong working relationship.
Strong leadership footprint with prior experience managing people.
Formally credit trained at either Citi or at a reputable financial institution.
Self‑starter, able to work under time pressure and observe deadlines.
Very adaptive to change and capable of operating under stress.
Education
Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience.
Master's degree preferred.
