US LBM
A Brief Overview
The Designer Hourly uses computer or technical tools to prepare detailed presentations of building material requirements and systems for assigned projects or related segments. This position may design and complete layouts of residential roof and floor systems for pricing and manufacturing.
What You Will Do
Design residential roof and floor systems and produce layouts.
Discuss changes and corrections with engineers, architects and contractors prior to and during construction.
Present, sell and follow up on new jobs.
Prepare roof truss and truss joist floor layouts.
Perform job site inspections.
Produce materials list.
Determine special notes to append to contracts.
Resolve architectural and design discrepancies.
Assist in the shipping department.
Read and understand blueprints and detailed technical drawings.
Use computer or other technical equipment to provide a technically accurate layout (takeoff) of customer orders.
Adhere to local building codes and material constraints when developing material lists and design layouts.
Produce final copies for contractor use for bathrooms, kitchens, decks, patios and others as assigned.
Assist customers as required, providing accurate, timely and thorough customer service.
Measure and scale projects on-site.
Invoice projects, schedule installation and delivery of products and materials.

Education Qualifications
High School or GED required.
Associate's Degree in civil, architectural or design related field may be required.
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Applicable work experience may be substituted for educational requirement.
Experience Qualifications
1 year of drafting experience in a construction or building materials-related industry required.
Skills And Abilities
Proficient technical writing skills. Excellent salesmanship and communication skills. Proprietary software, AUTOCAD, computer literate, ability to read technical drawings.
Reading and interpreting blueprints in an architectural related industry.
PC literate with Microsoft Office products, AUTO CAD, and other design programs that facilitate learning in-house program with ease.
