Role Summary
The Director, Investor Relations (IR) will play a critical role in developing, shaping and executing Pfizer’s external narrative, with particular focus on commercial strategy and execution (US and International). The Director IR will also:
- Monitor the competitive environment and gather insights to refine Pfizer’s messaging and positioning.
- Lead the IR Team’s investor targeting and engagement strategy (including retail investors).
- Lead the development of best‑in‑class content.
This leader will partner closely with Commercial, Digital, Competitive Intelligence, Corporate Affairs, and the broader IR team to ensure Pfizer’s story is clear, compelling, and strategically aligned across audiences globally.
The IR director is self‑motivated and influential, excels at building relationships across all levels internally and externally, and serves as a vital link between Pfizer and the investment community by communicating their opinions, feedback, and needs to shape the company’s investor relations and communications strategy. This role is best suited for someone who is highly strategic, analytical, and collaborative, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, compelling messages for investors.
The Director, IR should have a good understanding of science, US and international pharmaceutical industry micro and macro environments, the financial markets as it relates to the pharmaceutical industry, its external and internal influencers and a strong drug development and financial and/or scientific background, understanding the scientific background behind Pfizer’s products and its competitors.
The Director, Investor Relations needs to be able to articulate, verbally and in writing, a science‑driven business case, commercial outcome, and investment case.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Communications Leadership
- Support development and execution of investor communications for the U.S. and International commercial organizations.
- Partner with commercial leadership to translate strategy, performance, and market dynamics into clear, consistent external messaging.
- Ensure alignment across therapeutic areas, geographies, and channels.
Competitive Intelligence & Market Positioning
- Collaborate with Pfizer’s internal Competitive Intelligence team to monitor peer activity, sector trends, and market signals.
- Synthesize competitive insights into actionable recommendations that sharpen Pfizer’s positioning.
- Inform messaging frameworks, Q&A documents, investor presentations, and leadership briefings.
Investor Targeting & Engagement
- Support design and execution of Pfizer’s investor targeting strategy.
- Analyze investor behavior, portfolio shifts, and sector allocations to identify high‑value institutions and individuals.
- Partner with the IR Team Corporate Access leader and Pfizer’s leadership to optimize meeting calendars across cities, conferences, and roadshows.
Content Strategy & Quality Excellence
- Contribute to the development of best‑in‑class investor materials, including earnings presentations, conference decks, and thematic content.
- Partner with design, comms, and functional experts to ensure accuracy, consistency, visual clarity, and narrative impact.
Retail Investor Strategy
- Help shape and strengthen Pfizer’s approach to retail investor engagement.
- Develop clear, accessible messaging that resonates with a broader investing audience.
- Identify new channels, formats, and opportunities to increase reach and understanding.
AI‑Enabled IR Innovation
- Support AI‑driven initiatives to enhance process efficiency, insight generation, and content development.
- Identify new tools and workflows that increase speed and precision across IR deliverables.
A Day in the Life
Internal
- Develop messaging and communication strategy for Pfizer’s commercial functions (US, International), including micro and macro environment impacts.
- Update all earnings material (Message Map, IR Focus, press releases, Q&A, and others as needed).
- Support development of briefing documents for the commercial leaders (ELT, etc.) prior to their engagements with the financial markets.
- Support the commercial leaders in their engagement with the financial markets.
- Develop messaging and communication strategy for Pfizer’s retail investors.
- Lead the maintenance and development of IR’s AI data retention and engagement system (IEM) and ensure proper training of the IR Team.
- Assure IR team is trained on all topics relevant to their responsibilities.
- Develop and lead a proactive account management and outreach program to engage current and potential investors and analysts in assigned territories, including non‑traditional investor types, based on agreed‑upon segmentation criteria.
External
- Serve as the company's interface with the investment community, managing day‑to‑day interaction with investors and analysts, quarterly earnings process, external conferences and road shows, and investor days.
- Develop and execute innovative strategies to deepen Pfizer’s relationships with the investor community.
- Maintain and support the development of a positive public image for the organization.
- Lead planning and execution of financial analyst meetings/roadshows and support ELT members speaking at events.
- Support periodic meetings such as quarterly Commercial earnings prep meetings.
- Lead and support Pfizer’s participation in conferences and 1x1 meetings with investors.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in science, marketing, finance or related field required.
- 8–10+ years of relevant experience in IR, finance, marketing or other relevant fields in the pharmaceutical or life science industry.
- Understand and perform within the boundaries of the regulatory framework regarding investor information disclosure laws.
- Creative thinker with outstanding communication and storytelling skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain business relationships.
- Good understanding of financial reports, analytical methods and financial data tools required.
- Ability to convert complex financial and scientific information into understandable text and stories for non‑experts.
- Ability to analyze and improve opportunities for investors.
- Ability to interact and communicate with the most senior leaders of the company.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or advanced degree preferred. Pharmaceuticals Sellside experience strongly preferred.
- Prior experience or a good understanding of the role of Investor Relations preferred.
- Familiarity with Pfizer’s pipeline and commercial products as well as competitors’ key disease areas and product lines strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with financial platforms including Bloomberg and/or Nasdaq IR Insight preferred.
- Experience and proficiency with the WDesk (Workiva) financial reporting platform preferred.
- Experience with designing and implementing key account management programs strongly preferred.
- Knowledge and experience of business practices and general cultural norms outside the US to facilitate interacting and deepening relationships with non‑US investors.
Other Job Details

- Ability to travel domestically and internationally to meet with current and prospective investors. US based : 30‑50% travel.
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours when required, for example, to participate in internal meetings, host evening investor dinners or to speak to US, European and Asian investors during their business hours.
