Duties: The Community Relations Specialist is responsible for conceptualizing, developing and facilitating the implementation of projects related to community relations and being a valued neighbor in the communities served by HACLA. The position requires close coordination and communication with Department Heads and staff representing elected officials, public housing residents, businesses, community-based organizations and neighborhood representatives for all fourteen public housing developments. This role strives to achieve fulfillment of its community relations mission to the greatest extent practicable. Essential Functions Works in partnership with residents and advocates within the public housing community. Assists the Department Head to develop and promote community relations and opportunities. Represents the Authority at community meetings. Works on behalf of Director(s) to develop community relations plans and promote new and ongoing initiatives. Collaborates and coordinates with other operating units as needed. Performs other related job functions as needed. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Collaboration Skills. Communication Proficiency. Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment or in the field in community settings. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to talk or hear and frequently is required to stand or walk. Position Type / Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the- area and overnight travel may be expected. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work or related field. Experience: 3 years of responsible experience in community work; Bilingual Spanish preferred.
