The Difference You Make The Associate, Underwriting & Portfolio Management manages a portfolio of loan relationships, routinely monitoring them for risks inherent in a loan portfolio. The incumbent supports the department manager on continuous improvement initiatives and takes the lead on projects that support loan growth and efficiency objectives within lines of business. The Associate helps deliver an industry‑leading experience for both internal and external customers and acts as a subject matter expert.
Responsibilities
Provide financial analysis on large corporate clients with a focus on credit.
Underwrite credits, spread financials, and perform projections unsupervised with deep understanding of the client.
Participate in deal diligence process including identifying all key risks.
Review relevant deal documents/information provided in data room, by Company/Sponsor, and third‑party reports.
Oversee internal approval process, ensuring accurate and timely completion of internal approval write‑ups and lead deal merit discussion on internal approval calls.
Required Qualifications
At least 3+ years of experience in credit underwriting with solid experience in spreading financials under GAAP and IFRS accounting, understanding EBITDA add‑backs and performing projections unsupervised with deep client understanding.
Experience with financial analysis of large corporate clients with a focus on credit.
3+ years of financial analysis, structuring, underwriting and portfolio management.
3+ years of experience with underwriting loan transactions.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in Finance, Accounting, Management, Economics, or related field.
Superior written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical skills and proficiency in navigating financial statements.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with little supervision.
Effective teamwork and collaboration skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Skill in proposing, negotiating, and recommending credit and covenant structures.
Comfortable with customer contact situations including escalations and potential workout/loan restructure environments.
Ability to foster strong partnerships with underwriting and documentation units.
Demonstrated knowledge of credit and risk analysis.
Knowledge of financial modeling and ability to structure credit in a modeling environment.
Independently reaching conclusions and providing clear views of credit structure and business risk.
Understanding of industry nuances applicable to the credits contained within the portfolio.
Knowledge of loan and related legal documents.
Strong judgment and sound credit skills.
Knowledge of Federal banking regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of bank‑certified course in Credit Training.
Established work history or equivalent demonstrated through a combination of work experience, training, military service, or education.
Experience in Microsoft Office products.
Location Primary Location: New York, NY, Madison Ave Corp (Mid‑town NYC) – in‑office position.
Compensation
Base Pay Range: Minimum $108,750.00 USD – Maximum $175,000.00 USD (annualized).
