Job Summary Student Intern / Architectural Designer, I

– Plan and design new or existing structures, including commercial buildings, private residences, urban developments, and other structural properties. Consult with clients to assess purpose, objectives, budget requirements, and design needs. Prepare proposals, presentations, and reports for clients regarding safety standards, design expectations, project specifications, and compliance with government regulations. Produce scale or technical drawings, blueprints, and architectural models using computer‑aided design (CAD) and other tools. Coordinate activities of active projects and work closely with clients, drafters, technicians, and engineers. Work is reviewed by a licensed architect or senior member of the design team. Requires basic skill set and proficiency. Conducts work assignments as directed. Closely supervised.

Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) with up to 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s (or equivalency) degree. Students working toward a bachelor’s may apply.

Responsibilities

Plan and design new or existing structures, including commercial buildings, private residences, urban developments, and other structural properties.

Consult with clients to assess purpose, objectives, budget requirements, and design needs.

Prepare proposals, presentations, and reports for clients regarding safety standards, design expectations, project specifications, and compliance with government regulations.

Produce scale or technical drawings, blueprints, and architectural models using computer‑aided design (CAD) and other tools.

Coordinate activities of active projects and work closely with clients, drafters, technicians, and engineers.

Assist with preparation of presentations and basic analytical tasks, drafting, modeling, GIS, space‑use investigations, and research for the project team.

Collaborate with team members and may work on multiple projects from inception to completion to gain exposure to all aspects of the design and construction process.

Use U Facilities software platforms to support project teams and members with project assistance in‑office and on job sites.

Apply architectural BIM and CADD support within given parameters on small to large scale projects including Capital Improvements and Capital Development projects.

Minimum Qualifications EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (e.g., a bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) with 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s (or equivalency) degree.

Preferences

Currently earning a professional degree in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management.

Working knowledge of BIM drafting including Revit preferred.

Proficiency in MS Office Suite, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Creative Suite and other Adobe and drafting/presentation tools.

Experience working in settings with students from diverse backgrounds and a strong commitment to improving access to higher education for historically underrepresented students.
