Principal and Leadership Gifts Associate The ACLU seeks applicants for the full‑time position of Principal and Leadership Gifts Associate in the Development Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY. This hybrid role requires in‑office presence two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.

What You’ll Do Reporting to the Associate Director, Executive Portfolio, the Principal and Leadership Gifts Associate will provide fundraising, research, and administrative support to the Principal and Leadership Gifts teams.

YOUR DAY TO DAY

Maintain and enter donor‑related communications and data into our CRM.

Ensure accurate record‑keeping and timely gift processing and pledge reporting.

Assist in preparing donor‑strategy briefing papers, funding proposals, reports, and talking points.

Edit and send gift acknowledgement letters and support other stewardship documentation and communication.

Support and contribute to the unit’s business processes, including managing donor database records, moves management, performance reporting, coordinating solicitation resources, scheduling meetings, and administering budget and expense reports.

Facilitate research on donors and prospects.

Draft, edit, and proofread donor communications, maintaining a working knowledge of relevant ACLU issue areas and activities.

Provide production support for donor meetings, small‑group events, and donor communications.

Manage staff travel, including coordination and prioritization of ACLU national and affiliate visits.

Handle special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to represent the organization to donors and to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers while maintaining tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.

Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects, superior attention to detail, and strong follow‑through.

Strong verbal communication, writing, proofreading, and editing skills.

Ability to apply sound judgment to share information internally and externally, and serve as a resource for others.

Ability to proactively contribute to both assigned and unassigned tasks and projects, and work independently and with others to identify and solve problems.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of, or desire to learn about, the major‑gift fundraising field.

Familiarity with office software and fundraising databases.

Experience working at complex, fast‑paced national or international nonprofits.

Compensation The ACLU is committed to equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. The annual salary for this position is

$85,596 (Level J) , reflecting the salary of a role based in New York, NY. Salaries are subject to a regional pay adjustment if authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
