Remote positions at the Institute for Humane Studies (IHS) require travel to our Arlington, VA office for two in-person team gatherings each year. Job Summary: The Graduate Engagement Strategist (GES) is responsible for developing trusted relationships with a portfolio of PhD students, and connecting them to resources, leveraged academic opportunities, and other scholars. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Partnerships, the GES will work collaboratively with other teams at IHS to best service the needs of the Institute’s scholarly audiences and will coordinate extensively with the Community Engagement Team. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Duties/Responsibilities: Develop deep knowledge and close relationships with a portfolio of graduate students. Provide information regarding these students and their associated research to the appropriate internal stakeholders. Attend cross-functional meetings and offer suggestions to relevant stakeholders by assisting with programmatic strategic development to better support the Strategist’s portfolio of graduate students. Attend academic conferences, prospecting events, and other key events to interact with graduate students; 15-20% travel required for this role (approximately 10+ events per year) Engage in frequent digital outreach (email, Zoom meetings, etc.) with graduate students and the greater IHS network; lead a suite of 10-12 programs for PhD students. Coordinate with the team to select topics and speakers and handle all invitations for these events. Required Skills/Qualifications: Experience in higher education; terminal degree (PhD, JD, DPhil, etc.) preferred. Creative and enterprising thinker with strong execution and problem-solving skills. Capacity and affinity to drive a technology-savvy and data-driven approach, with experience setting and tracking key performance metrics within a CRM system. Salesforce experience preferred. High motivation to work independently matched by demonstrated success working collaboratively with teams in a cross-functional environment. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to critically evaluate and prioritize information gathered from multiple sources and reconcile conflicts. A demonstrated ability to understand and articulate complex processes. A curious nature with a strong drive to learn and grow. Knowledge of classical liberal ideas preferred.
