Job Overview The

Underground Foreman (TBM Tunneling)

will serve as a key on-site trenchless operations leader and be responsible for the successful execution of specialized underground infrastructure projects, such as

tunnel installations ,

vertical shaft construction , and

pipeline rehabilitation .

This role involves direct supervision over a crew, maintaining high standards of safety/quality control, and ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.

Duties & Responsibilities Execution & Quality Control

Oversee and direct daily operations, including deep shaft excavation/installation, TBM (tunnel boring machine) tunneling, drilling and shooting tunnels, and executing specialized pipeline rehabilitation (spiral wound PVC lining).

Implement technical plans, boring profiles, and specifications for various trenchless/underground applications (pressure and gravity pipelines).

Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve on-site issues/potential problems.

Crew & Safety Leadership

Ensure crew members are properly trained, held accountable, and provided opportunities to develop/grow.

Ensure all crew members/subcontractors adhere to OSHA and site‑specific safety standards.

Oversee the proper use and maintenance of specialized underground/trenchless equipment (tunnel boring machines, jacking systems, lining equipment, etc.).

Project Coordination & Reporting

Effectively coordinate with the Superintendent to schedule/allocate resources and ensure tasks are completed on time and within budget.

Ensure the timely delivery, proper handling, and secure storage of all necessary materials and equipment.

Maintain accurate/timely crew member time sheets and daily logs/reports of operational progress and equipment utilization.

Accurately track progress and document any issues or changes, including but not limited to footages installed/excavated, ground conditions, and deviations in grade/alignment.

Qualifications & Requirements Experience:

3+ years of specialized experience in underground construction, including tunneling, deep shaft construction, and specialized lining rehabilitation. Proven success in on‑site leadership and crew supervision is required.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in operating specialized trenchless equipment, such as tunnel boring machines (TBM), jack leg drills, explosives, and lining equipment. Knowledge of underground sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and gravity/pressure pipeline systems is a plus.

Project Specifications:

Ability to interpret technical plans, boring profiles, geotechnical reports, and detailed project specifications to ensure accurate execution of underground work.

Certifications:

OSHA 30 or other relevant safety certifications are preferred.

Mindset:

A safety‑conscious leader with strong communication, problem‑solving, and organizational skills who is committed to maintaining high‑quality standards on‑site.

Location & Travel:

Based primarily in the Atlanta, GA area. Must have the ability to work out of town and travel as required by specific project schedules.

Other:

Must be authorized to work in the US, possess a valid driver’s license with a clean MVR, and pass a pre‑employment drug screening/physical.
