Electrical Avionics Engineer – Key Role Overview

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Proficiency in Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Experience designing space-environment electronics (LEO/GEO/deep space): radiation, thermal, vibration, fault tolerance.
  • Ability to define spacecraft avionics architectures and develop system budgets.
  • Hands‑on experience with radiation testing.
  • Familiarity with embedded software and firmware integration.
  • Deep expertise in at least one domain:
    • High‑speed digital: FPGAs, processors, memory, high‑speed buses
    • Power electronics: converters, load switches
    • RF electronics: mixers, oscillators, PAs
    • Mixed‑signal electronics: ADC/DACs, sensors, analog front‑ends
  • Skill with circuit simulation tools such as LTSpice.
  • Experience designing fault‑tolerant avionics for mission‑critical operation.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and develop avionics units in one or more of the following areas:
    • Flight computers, data handling, and payload interfaces
    • Power converters and power distribution
    • Attitude‑determination sensors and imaging systems
    • Radio communication systems
    • High‑power microwave amplifiers
  • Perform PCB schematic capture and layout, and lead technical reviews of electronics designs.
  • Develop and execute test plans for space‑qualification (Thermal, vibration, radiation, EMC/EMI). Mil‑Std883E or 1540 OR Nasa STD‑7002.
  • Prior work on DoD or U.S. Government programs a plus. DOD Secret a plus.

Education & Experience

  • BS in Electrical Engineering (or related field).
  • 5–8 years relevant engineering experience.
