Senior Psychiatrist – UM Medical Director
Join the Behavioral Health Services (BHS) Utilization Management (UM) team as a Senior Psychiatrist – Medical Director, shaping behavioral health care delivery across San Francisco.
Pay Range : $304,954 / yr – $439,842 / yr (based on skills and experience).
What You’ll Do
- Provide clinical oversight for behavioral health utilization management
- Review medical necessity for prospective, concurrent, and retrospective cases
- Conduct peer‑to‑peer reviews and support appeals processes
- Co‑chair the UM Committee and lead development of the UM Work Plan
- Analyze utilization trends and recommend improvements
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure timely, high‑quality care
- Provide up to 25% direct clinical services
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid license to practice medicine issued by the Medical Board of California or Osteopathic Medical Board of California
- Successful completion of an ACGME‑ or AOA‑accredited psychiatric residency program (Board Eligible)
- Valid DEA registration with the U.S. Department of Justice
- 7+ years of behavioral health clinical experience
- 2+ years of utilization management or medical director experience
- Strong leadership, problem‑solving, and data analysis skills
- Familiarity with CPT coding and managed care principles
- Collaborative, results‑oriented, and mission‑driven
- Enjoy a flexible part‑time schedule with meaningful impact
