The Senior Product Manager is responsible for product management and commercialization of MSD products, ensuring the achievement of short‑ and long‑term revenue and profit goals. This position evaluates industry and customer trends, defines customer needs, develops detailed product requirements, and delivers commercial launches. The role is part of cross‑functional teams, providing product vision and strategy, identifying and filling product gaps, and generating innovative ideas to grow market share. The incumbent owns the full lifecycle of the product line, from new product introduction, forecasting, pricing, supply continuity, to transitions to new product offerings. As a senior role, the incumbent operates independently and mentors other Product Managers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute, and own product line strategy
    • Define the product strategy and roadmap that aligns with company goals and market opportunities
    • Balance product line innovation with operational excellence
    • Build business cases for new product offerings and portfolio expansion
    • Monitor product performance, market trends, and customer needs to identify growth opportunities
  • Market insight and voice of customer
    • Partner with field‑based commercial teams to capture feedback from pharma, biotech, and academic customers
    • Gather market insights from conferences, publications, and key opinion leaders
    • Conduct and synthesize voice‑of‑customer research to inform product strategy and requirements
  • Product development, launch, and lifecycle management
    • Partner with R&D to define product requirements, specifications, and performance metrics
    • Define product positioning, pricing, and differentiation within the multiplexed immunoassay and proteomics market
    • Support marketing collateral and training materials for product launches
    • Accountable for the commercial success of the assigned product line responsibilities
    • Define and analyze KPIs to monitor product line performance for continual improvement and lifecycle management
  • Monitor the competitive environment
    • Perform competitive product analysis
    • Develop tactics for addressing direct and/or indirect product competition
    • Adjust positioning based on competitor strategies
    • Collaborate with Assay Development, Quality, and Operations to drive successful product development programs
    • Work with Global Sales Management to develop and execute tactical marketing and training programs
    • Engage Sales, Scientific Support, Customer Service, and Finance to improve marketing effectiveness and customer loyalty
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to other Product Managers
    • Assist team members in product messaging, market sizing, financial forecasts, pricing, and other marketing expertise areas

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in life science, marketing, communications, or a related field
    • Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in product management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of product management best practices and a proven track record in positioning, managing, and marketing life science products through their life cycle
  • Demonstrated understanding of immunoassays and proteomics platforms, their development, and applicability in research fields
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time‑management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex information into clear, understandable messages
  • Ability to build and foster relationships with cross‑functional stakeholders based on trust and respect
  • Capability to work independently and as an effective team member
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills with sound judgment and problem‑solving ability
  • Creative, collaborative, proactive, and self‑motivated execution of assigned accountabilities
  • Ability to advise, mentor, and guide teammates in product management best practices
  • Willingness to travel and work outside normal business hours as needed

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to sit and stand for long periods. Occasional walking, using hands and fingers to operate tools, and reaching with hands and arms are required. The position may require up to 20% travel.

Work Environment

This position is performed in a standard office environment, remote or hybrid model.

Compensation Summary

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $116,600 to $177,800, with additional discretionary or non‑discretionary bonuses. Compensation may adjust based on scope, responsibilities, and market factors.
