The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II The Mobile Diesel Technician II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The technician can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, continually learning advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques while complying with all company policies and achieving high‑level performance metrics.
DUTIES
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment.
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives.
Independently manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation.
Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, including safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs and provide assistance or resolve problems.
Manage concurrent tasks and prioritize activities and time allocations.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
Document work per company standards, uploading pictures, parts used, and findings on repair orders via a proprietary TRAIT application.
Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
Work independently and manage personal daily schedule.
Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase order numbers, and repair order findings.
Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (or a different combination such as a degree/certification beyond a HS diploma and 5 years’ experience).
Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
Must complete and pass a DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining can be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical; otherwise, a DOT physical is required.
Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
Hold a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
