Position Summary The Vascular Specialist will evaluate, diagnose, treat and manage patients with vascular disease (arterial, venous and lymphatic) across acute, outpatient and preventive settings. The role emphasizes both clinical expertise and patient-education, working closely with the vascular team, referring physicians and support staff to ensure high-quality care, positive outcomes and excellent patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive vascular evaluations (history, physical exam, risk stratification) and order appropriate diagnostic tests (e.g., vascular ultrasound, CT/MR angiography, ankle-brachial index).
Diagnose vascular conditions such as peripheral artery disease (PAD), deep vein thrombosis (DVT), chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), varicose veins, aneurysms, dialysis access issues, etc.
Develop and implement personalized treatment plans – medical management, endovascular interventions, referral for surgery or multidisciplinary care as needed.
Provide ongoing follow-up care and monitoring of vascular health, including lifestyle interventions, risk-factor modification (e.g., smoking cessation, diabetes control), wound care coordination, and vascular rehabilitation.
Collaborate with other specialists and referring providers to ensure coordinated patient management.
Educate patients and families on vascular disease, prevention strategies, treatment options and self-care.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record, maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and quality metrics.
Participate in clinic workflow, contribute to process improvement, help optimize the patient experience, and support marketing/outreach efforts aimed at increasing vascular referrals and awareness throughout Kern County.
Stay current on advances in vascular medicine, guidelines, minimally invasive procedures and technology.
Qualifications & Skills
MD degree with board eligibility or board certification in Vascular Medicine, Vascular Surgery/Interventional Cardiologist.
Valid California medical license (or eligibility to obtain).
Proven experience in diagnosing and managing vascular disease; experience with outpatient vascular practice preferred.
Strong clinical judgment and decision-making capabilities with a patient-centric approach.
Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex medical information to patients and families.
Team-oriented mindset, ability to collaborate across disciplines and drive operational and quality improvements.
Commitment to preventive care, patient education and high standards of service.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced outpatient environment; able to manage multiple demands, maintain accuracy and high quality.
Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and standard office technologies.
Preferred / Additional Qualifications
Fellowship training in vascular medicine or endovascular interventions.
Experience with outpatient procedural work (e.g., minimally invasive venous ablation, sclerotherapy).
Knowledge of Baxter, Medtronic, Boston Scientific or other vascular device systems.
Experience working in community or regional health setting with understanding of local patient demographics and referral patterns.
