Charles Taylor Position Summary:
The property Claims Adjuster is responsible for investigating property and APD claims and determining settlement value, if any, based on the individual merits and available defenses of each claim. Essential Functions: Investigate, evaluate damages and liability, negotiate, and settle assigned claims Maintain activity log on actions taken on each file and maintain diary system Settle claims within authorized limits Establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers by providing excellent customer service Performs onsite and virtual inspection of damages to resolve coverage and damage issues to include preparing complete estimates of repair for the covered damages Sets appropriate reserves for claims Proactively provides all parties with claim process and status as appropriate; answers questions or redirects as needed Works with contractors to establish appropriate repair costs Requests payments through claims database Maintains files of related documents and forms electronically Prepares reports of losses to clients. Prepares reports on large losses for internal use as well as for reinsurers as necessary Acts as a backup and as a resource to other Adjusters Identifies subrogation potential and pursues recovery Works with underwriting to help provide relevant information on losses for renewal rates as well as Risk Management to identify trends Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Proficiency in entire Microsoft Office Suite Ability to read estimates Ability to understand terminology used in construction industry Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Ability to adapt to changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems Excellent oral and written communication abilities, including the ability to communicate with all levels of individuals Confidentiality and discretion High degree of accuracy Customer service orientation Organizational skills Exhibits strong attention to detail and understand its importance to the business Ability to work independently , as well as part of a team Excellent decision making skills Ability to negotiate and settle issues Listening skills Ability to deal with dissatisfied clients from time to time Required Education and Experience: High School education Demonstrated experience handling 1st and 3rd party, multi-line claims Demonstrated experience handling potentially large property losses Solid knowledge and understanding of policies and endorsements related to property coverages Solid knowledge and understanding of each phase of the claim handling process 7-10 years of experience in property adjusting preferably commercial property Preferred Education and Experience: Prior experience handling property claims Prior experience working with municipal insureds Claims designations such as AIC or ARM Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb up and down stairs; climb up and down ladders; moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces; adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions This position may require employees to visit hazardous conditions and/or noisy environments Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time salaried position, generally working Monday-Friday from 8:00 to 4:30. Occasional additional hours are required from time to time. Travel:
Infrequent, 20% of the time. May travel to do onsite inspections of losses. Travel is intrastate. Rarely overnight stays are required.
