Job Summary
Position offers the opportunity to play a vital role in the design and execution of electric distribution projects that directly impact both new and existing customers. Working within a collaborative team environment, the successful candidate will balance independent project ownership with team-based problem solving to deliver high-quality infrastructure solutions. This role combines technical design work with meaningful customer interaction and field assessments, providing a dynamic work experience that extends beyond traditional office boundaries. Utilizing specialized GIS software and engineering principles, this position requires the ability to translate complex customer requirements and technical specifications into accurate working drawings, models, and contract documents that support critical utility infrastructure development.
Responsibilities
Design and manage electric distribution projects from initial customer contact through project completion
Create, update, and revise sketches, working drawings, and contract documents using SmallWorld GIS software or manual drafting methods
Prepare two-dimensional and three-dimensional models to support project requirements
Conduct field visits to residential, commercial, and construction sites for project assessments
Perform transformer sizing calculations, underground cable routing, and pole placement design
Read and interpret detailed customer requirements, data sheets, supplier specifications, engineering drawings, and blueprints
Interact directly with customers to understand project needs and provide technical guidance
Prepare bills of material, schedules, and documentation to support design drawings
Assist engineering personnel with formal drawing transmittals and construction issues
Monitor project management systems for new customer contacts and project assignments
Participate in weekly scheduling meetings and team coordination sessions
Manage project timelines and deliverables while maintaining quality standards
Skills
Strong verbal and written communication abilities
Excellent organizational and project management capabilities
Basic electrical knowledge or related technical background
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications
Familiarity with drafting techniques and engineering concepts and terminology
Problem‑solving skills and analytical thinking
Adaptability and ability to work independently
Strong interpersonal skills for customer and team interactions
Desire and capacity to learn new technical systems and processes
GIS or AutoCAD experience (preferred but not required)
Experience in electrical or utility fields (preferred but not required)
Qualifications
Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for field work and mileage reimbursement
Job Details Hybrid work schedule:
Flexibility with in‑office collaboration Tuesday through Thursday and remote work on Mondays and Fridays, complemented by engaging field work that comprises approximately thirty percent of the role.
