Johnny Morris’ Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium is the largest, most-immersive fish and wildlife attraction in the world. The facility consists of a 1.5-million-gallon Aquarium Adventure showcasing 35,000 live fish, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds, and immersive Wildlife Galleries sharing the story of America’s most significant conservationists throughout history and today.
Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic Keeper 1 to join our Animal Ambassador team! This person will work under the supervision of the Lead Ambassador Animal Keeper and Curatorial Staff. This individual will ensure and promote effective and efficient care of the department’s animal collection.
Essential Functions
Responsible for daily husbandry and ensuring proper care of all animals, including preparation of diets and medical care.
Daily animal and exhibit observations along with maintenance of animal exhibit space.
Will be trained to care for ambassador animals in our offsite holding facility, WOW, and Dogwood Canyon.
Upkeeping daily records and recording appropriately in TRACKS.
Strives to build and maintain a cooperative attitude and working relationships with colleagues and other departments associated with Wonders of Wildlife.
Assist museum staff & visitors as needed in a pleasant, professional, and courteous manner.
Conducts engaging educational animal presentations for special events, education programs, and behind‑the‑scenes tours.
Performs other job‑related duties as assigned to achieve the goals and mission of the museum.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field is preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a four‑year degree at the discretion of WOW.
Preferred two years of experience in a professional animal facility working with mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects.
Must have good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work well within a team environment and the discipline to work individually with minimal supervision.
Requires a high degree of concentration and attention to the needs of the collection. Must have precise record keeping and the ability to follow and convey written and verbal instructions. Must possess the analytical skills necessary to troubleshoot mechanical issues and animal behavioral issues.
Requires walking/standing approximately 75% of the time, sitting 10% of the time, forward bending and crouching 15% of the time, lifting up to 50 lbs.
Requires proficiency with Personal Computer (P.C.) hardware and contemporary software including Microsoft Office Products.
Requires capability of performing essential job functions in holding areas, exhibit spaces, outdoor areas in a variety of temperature and weather conditions.
Requires the ability to provide proof of a negative TB test.
Willingness to receive rabies vaccine.
