Position Summary This position is supervised by the Director of Nursing; on a day‑to‑day basis, the nursing assistant may be given direction by the RN/LPN on duty. Medical Assistants are cross‑trained to perform administrative and clinical duties which, by design and intent, assists nursing staff in accomplishing a variety of patient‑related tasks.
Essential Job Functions
Performs administrative duties such as welcoming patients and visitors, answering department phones, and assisting with discharge or transfer procedures.
Takes patient history and prepares patients for examination.
Assists the physician during examinations.
Collects and prepares laboratory specimens.
Transmits prescription refills as directed by the physician.
Responds to patient call bells in a timely manner.
Administers medications as directed by the physician.
Instructs patients about medications and special diet needs.
Ensures that all documentation is timely and according to established protocols.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance (essential function).
Knowledge, Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalency.
Certified as a Medical Assistant (preferred).
Prior experience in substance abuse disorder (preferred).
