About the Role
EPI Geophysics, Inc. is seeking an experienced
Utility Locator / GPR Specialist
to support our growing private utility locating and subsurface investigation services. This role is ideal for someone with strong hands‑on experience using
GPR, EM locating (Pipe & Cable), and related technologies
to identify underground utilities and subsurface features in complex environments.
With the recent
acquisition of Advanced Geological Services (AGS) , EPI Geophysics now offers a rare combination of
high‑end geophysical services and robust private utility locating capabilities . This creates an exciting opportunity for utility‑focused professionals to work alongside geophysicists, expand their technical exposure, and grow with a company that covers the full spectrum of subsurface investigation.
Key Responsibilities
Perform private utility locating using:
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
Electromagnetic (EM) pipe and cable locating
Passive and active locating techniques
Clear drilling, test pit, and excavation locations
Identify and map subsurface utilities and anomalies
Collect GPS data and prepare accurate field documentation
Assist with concrete scanning, UST investigations, and subsurface mapping
Communicate findings clearly with clients and project teams
Comprehensive report writing
Maintain equipment and follow safety protocols
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of private utility locating and/or GPR experience
Strong understanding of subsurface utility investigation (SUI) practices
Experience working on active construction and environmental sites
Comfortable working independently in the field
Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
ASNT Level II, SUE experience, or similar certifications are a plus
