Senior Business Development Underwriter (Chicagoland) ICW Group is hiring a Senior Business Development Underwriter to establish collaborative relationships with agencies and producers, assess external marketplace risk, and underwrite within established performance standards. The role aims to generate and maintain a profitable book of business aligned with company goals and guidelines.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Drives and manages a profitable and growing book of business.

Sells, services and maintains a producer force that can sell and control a profitable and growing book of business.

Monitors the production and quality of assigned producers.

Drives profitable sale of the Company’s products, including increasing sales of existing products and introducing new products as they are developed.

Develops the assigned producer group to improve the quality and quantity of the business obtained from assigned producers.

Serves as the primary Company contact and representative with existing and prospective producers.

Keeps alert to industry changes, including WCIRB/NCCI rulings, forms, and coverage changes.

Prospects and prequalifies new producers to determine working relationships and appoints new quality producers; sets and monitors production expectations with each Agency.

Maintains knowledge of the geographic territory regarding production sources, competitor activity, and economic/demographic factors.

Directs activities pertaining to industry affairs and trade show events including exhibiting, special events and lead generation follow up.

Manages marketing research to identify opportunities for management, product enhancements, new distribution channels and new geographic markets with growth potential.

Supports strategic programs to promote new products, reposition existing products and integrate diverse corporate philosophies to support overall marketing and underwriting efforts.

Utilizes high level underwriting authority to price Company products effectively.

Accepts or rejects complex risks, evaluating risk characteristics and pricing for profit within underwriting guidelines.

Quotes retrofit options, deductible plans, and other pricing structures; communicates plan components and conducts customer presentations.

Delivers superior customer service through collaborative relationships and professional presentations to agencies and insureds.

Supervisory Responsibilities This role does not have direct reports but may mentor and/or train junior team members.

Education And Experience Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Business, Accounting, Statistics or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 3 years of related underwriting experience.

Knowledge And Skills

Demonstrated success servicing clients and building relationships with production sources.

Proven sales and effective relationship management skills.

Ability to apply fundamental to advanced underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures in an area of specialization.

Ability to read and interpret submissions, loss control reports, and standard policy forms/endorsements.

Demonstrated ability to lead special projects and mentor/train staff.

Physical Requirements

Office environment with regular sitting, walking, standing, talking, and hearing.

Approximately 50% travel to meet with clients, attend industry events, and develop new business opportunities.

Travel is usually by automobile with occasional air travel.

Regular visits to outside locations such as producers’ offices.

Work Environment

Position may operate in a home office environment and requires frequent use of a computer, telephone, and standard office equipment.

We are currently not offering employment sponsorship for this opportunity.

Compensation:

The current range for this position is $104,125.20 - $175,599.98. This range is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Final base salary will consider experience, education, location, and similarity roles.
