Job Description
The Auto Appraiser is responsible for inspecting evaluating and estimating vehicle damage to determine repair costs in accordance with policy provisions and company guidelines. This role plays a key part in ensuring fair and accurate settlements while delivering exceptional service to policyholders claimants and repair facilities.
Compensation
$75,000 - $95,000 / year (based on experience) 4 weeks of PTO, 9 company holidays 401(k) with generous company match Full medical benefits Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required; post‑secondary education in automotive repair, insurance or a related field preferred. 2 years of experience in auto appraising, auto body repair estimating or related field. Proficiency in auto estimating software (CCC Audatex or Mitchell) required. Working knowledge of vehicle construction and repair methods. Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills. Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to inspection sites as needed. I‑CAR or ASE certifications preferred. MA state appraiser license or certification. Key Responsibilities
Conduct physical and/or virtual inspections of damaged vehicles to assess the extent of damage and determine repairability. Prepare detailed repair estimates using industry‑standard estimating software (e.g., CCC One, Audatex, Mitchell). Negotiate repair costs and terms with body shops and vendors to ensure accuracy and cost‑effectiveness. Collaborate with claims adjusters to determine total loss vs. repair decisions and support claim resolution. Maintain accurate and organized documentation of all appraisals, photographs and communications. Ensure compliance with all applicable state regulations and internal company procedures. Provide excellent customer service by clearly communicating appraisal results and addressing questions or concerns. Stay current on industry trends, repair techniques and manufacturer guidelines. Support fraud detection efforts by identifying suspicious damage patterns or repair practices. May participate in catastrophe response efforts as needed. Key Skills
