Job Description Summary: This position is responsible for maintenance and operation of all processing equipment in the packaging area. The goal of this position is to gain the knowledge and skills required for the Packaging Mechanic Class "A" position. Job Description: The Packaging Mechanic is a primary member of a team, which includes a Planner, a Maintenance Administrator, Wet line Mechanics, Electricians and Refrigeration/Boiler Mechanics, Maintenance Supervisors and a Maintenance Manager. This position reports primarily to the Packaging Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Team Leader and the Shift Manager on shift. The Warden Facility produces food service French fries, shredded and southern style hash browns and specialty products. The individual in this position must be able to disassemble, overhaul, and reassemble equipment, including rebuilding and modifying equipment in all areas of their responsibility. Also, the individual must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair mechanical problems on all equipment and capable of recognizing malfunctions. The individual in this position will accomplish these tasks by utilizing a team concept, through working with team members and following directions and instructions from a team leader, supervisor or other qualified personnel. Work relationships and communication are key ingredients to the success of the individual holding this position. He/she must be able to attend all scheduled training, which may require travel. The individual in this position must establish and maintain open communication and productive working relationships with the Team Members, Maintenance Team Leaders, other Shift Support Personnel and the Shift Manager. The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of all process equipment in the packaging area and have the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates. It is imperative the packaging mechanic conducts him/herself in a manner that ensures alertness and constant awareness of the safe operation of equipment and its surroundings. Overtime requirements in this position are common and may be required to meet operational goals. The nature of this work requires that lunch and rest break schedules for this position be adjusted to fit the activities of the team and processing line. This position includes work both inside and outside the facility. Basic & Preferred Qualifications: Ensures the capability of efficient operation of all equipment in the process areas by using preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, overhauling and repairing equipment to achieve operational goals. Ensures unscheduled downtime and equipment repair is prioritized according to Plant needs by determining the impact to loss of production and/or safety issues.
