Responsibilities Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions to visualize products and determine materials required to fabricate parts. Compute dimensions, plan layouts, and determine assembly methods and sequences of operations. Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining. Set up and operate machines, verifying conformance of machined parts to specifications. Lift machined parts and secure them on surface plates or worktables. Smooth flat and contoured surfaces using power grinders, and fit and assemble parts. Verify dimensions, clearances, and alignment of members and parts in dies. Heat treat tools or parts. Examine standard or previously used dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures, recommending design modifications when necessary. Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and sketch designs. Dowel and bolt parts together, working to tolerances as close as thousandths. Dismantle dies and repair or replace parts. Grind, file, and sand parts to fit assemblies and smooth cavity finishes. Assemble dies or molds. Essential Skills Proficiency in tool and die making. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manual machining operations. Experience in die repair and troubleshooting. Familiarity with CNC, progressive die, and tooling. Additional Skills & Qualifications Two-year certificate from a college or technical school, or five years of related experience and/or training. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Proficiency in mathematical concepts including plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in various forms. Why Work Here? Work Environment The work environment is a large, well-organized sheet metal shop featuring a tool making department, quality department, and production environment. It includes numerous machines such as press brakes, punch presses, laser/turrets, and CNC machines. The environment can be loud but is designed for efficiency and safety. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
