Position Summary
The Assistant Production Manager supports daily ready mix concrete production operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality batching and delivery. This role partners closely with the Production Manager, plant personnel, dispatch, quality control, and maintenance teams to meet production goals, control costs, and maintain compliance with company, DOT, and OSHA standards.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in overseeing daily batching and plant operations across one or multiple ready mix plants
Support production scheduling to meet customer demand while optimizing plant efficiency
Monitor concrete quality and consistency; partner with Quality Control on mix designs and testing
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, DOT, OSHA, and MSHA regulations
Assist with plant maintenance planning and coordination with maintenance teams
Support inventory management of aggregates, cement, admixtures, and other materials
Help train, coach, and develop plant operators and production staff
Review production reports, downtime, yields, and waste to identify improvement opportunities
Assist with troubleshooting production issues and customer complaints
Step in for the Production Manager as needed during absences
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in ready mix concrete production, batching, or plant operations or Construction
Strong understanding of concrete mix designs, materials, and production processes
Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and environmental compliance standards
Experience working with dispatch systems and production software preferred
Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, production-driven environment
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and extended hours as needed
Preferred Qualifications
ACI certification (Concrete Field Testing Technician or equivalent)
Prior supervisory or lead experience in a ready mix or construction materials environment
Mechanical aptitude and basic maintenance knowledge
Experience supporting multiple plants or high-volume operations
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access plant equipment
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
