Head Coach, Field Hockey

The head field hockey coach is responsible for the general oversight and leadership of all aspects of the field hockey program.
Key Responsibilities
Manage daily operations of the NCAA Division III field hockey program under university, NCAA, and conference guidelines.
Practice and game preparation, supervise assistant coaching staff.
Recruitment and retention of qualified student‑athletes.
Ensure academic success and student‑athlete welfare.
Manage team travel logistics.
Engage in alumni relations and fundraising activities.
Support administrative duties within Athletics and Recreation Department as needed.
Supervision
Receives general supervision from the Director of Athletics.
Exercised general supervision over part‑time assistant coaches, graduate assistants, student workers, and interns.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in sports administration, recreation, physical education, or related discipline.
Master’s degree desirable.
Two to four years relevant coaching experience, or equivalent education/experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Effective communication with students, college personnel, and NCAA compliance network.
Understanding of university educational goals and commitment to accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Awareness of the challenges faced by economically and educationally disadvantaged students, especially in rural settings.
Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and follow‑through skills.
Technical proficiency with athletic and administrative technology (e.g., Slate, Microsoft Office).
Demonstrated ability to positively influence student skill development and support student success goals.
Capacity to work weekends and evenings.
Location Vermont State University, Castleton campus, Castleton, VT.
Compensation Base salary $52,000 - $58,000.
