Job Title Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Location Etowah, Tennessee
Hours Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM
Compensation $17/hr + based on prior experience

Essential Functions and Responsibilities The Heavy Equipment Mechanic performs inspections, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of heavy construction equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation on water and wastewater construction sites.
Perform preventative maintenance and general repairs on heavy construction equipment, including oil and filter changes, fluid checks, lubrication and cooling maintenance, replacing or repairing defective components, and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Perform equipment inspections and mechanical testing, focusing on mechanical integrity, wear parts, and safety systems.
Maintain proper inventory of tools, parts, and consumables required for maintenance and repairs.
Coordinate with procurement and part suppliers to order replacements.
Complete and document work orders, maintenance logs, and equipment service records.
Collaborate with project superintendents, field supervisors, and equipment operators to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime.
Work in accordance with company safety policies and OSHA regulations, including proper use of PPE, lockout/tagout procedures, and confined space awareness.
Heavy Equipment Mechanic Work Environment and Essential Functions
This role is an on‑site, outdoors position that requires work in all types of weather conditions.
This position performs strenuous physical activities for long periods, under varying and adverse field conditions.
This position must be able to lift and/or carry up to 75 lbs.
This role will be required to stand, walk on uneven surfaces, manually manipulate, grasp, reach out and above the shoulder, climb, kneel, bend, twist, and push/pull.
This role is occasionally required to work at elevated heights.
This role will require occasional travel.
Preferred Qualifications
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required Class B CDL preferred but not required
OSHA 10‑Hour Construction Safety certification
Manufacturer or dealer training on heavy equipment maintenance and repair
Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and drivetrain components.
Basic computer and mobile device skills for completing digital work orders and maintenance logs.
Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.
Experience operating or repairing heavy construction equipment.
Welding and fabrication skills.
