Overview The Department of Psychiatry at WMed seeks a board eligible or board-certified psychiatrist to serve as the Director of Emergency Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison at Bronson Methodist Hospital.
Department The Department employs 18 full-time faculty members and offers a fully accredited residency program with 24 residents. WMed expands psychiatric clinical services, research, and training for residents and medical students. Significant clinical and research collaborations include Integrated Services of Kalamazoo, Southwest Michigan Behavioral Health, Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Kalamazoo State Psychiatric Hospital, Community Healing Centers of Kalamazoo, and the Great Lakes Center for Autism.
WMed Psychiatry adopts a Collaborative Care Model (CoCM) with Bronson Healthcare and anticipates growth in primary family medicine, pediatrics, and OB/GYN practices.
Position Bronson Methodist Hospital (435‑bed) provides Consultation‑Liaison services by two faculty psychiatrists, two residents, and a nurse practitioner. The Emergency Psychiatry/CL Director, in collaboration with the WMed Department Chair, will identify areas for improvement and implement initiatives to advance the academic emergency psychiatry/CL program and set the standard for patient care in the region.
Responsibilities • Board‑eligible or certified psychiatrists with a passion for teaching and Emergency Psychiatry/Consult Liaison.
• Faculty rank (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) will depend on experience and qualifications.
• Clinical time incorporates supervision of medical students and psychiatry residents; protected academic time supports administrative, research, and leadership endeavors.
• Mentorship and strong support for individualized career planning and development.
• Candidates with additional training in geriatrics, consultation‑liaison, addiction medicine, or forensic training are welcome; specific clinical and academic responsibilities will be negotiated based on training and interests.
Qualifications • M.D. or D.O. with Michigan medical licensure. • Board‑certified or board‑eligible for psychiatry.
