Position Overview
The Community Enhancement Officer resides within the Development Services Department and is responsible for enforcing violations of city codes and ordinances and to ensure the health, safety, and general welfare of the citizens of Sanger.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Proactively performs daily property inspection to assess compliance with city ordinances.
Investigate complaints and identifies alleged violations.
Works closely with citizens to assist them in gaining compliance with city ordinances in the most customer friendly manner possible.
Issues notices, extensions, and citations as necessary to gain compliance with city ordinances.
Maintains computer case files (inspections, violation photographs, ownership information, case related meetings and phone conversations, notices, and citations issued) using tracking software.
Works with other city departments to develop the best policies and procedures to improve enforcement of and compliance with, city ordinances.
Recommends and implements changes to policies and procedures for code enforcement as needed.
Attends neighborhood and community functions to educate the public about ordinances, code violations, and Code Enforcement procedures, and to respond to questions about neighborhood concerns and issues.
Maintains a current knowledge of applicable ordinances.
Provides a high level of professional service with customers both internal and external.
Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
Required to attend court hearings.
May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of basic code enforcement principals and practices.
Knowledge and ability to interpret city ordinances and basic building and life safety codes.
Maintain necessary knowledge and skills to competently accomplish work responsibilities.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to form and maintain good relationships with coworkers and customers.
Ability to analyze problems, make objective decisions, and execute them effectively without prompting.
Ability to demonstrate actions that promote professionalism and credibility for the organization.
Ability to demonstrate accountability in completing tasks, projects, or other work assignments on time and according to established performance standards.
Ability to consistently demonstrate understanding, courtesy, tact, empathy, and concern when addressing others.
Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a strong background in code.
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Must have four years of experience in customer services problem solving.
Current State of Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certification.
OR
Combination of education and pertinent experience that would enable applicant to perform the functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications
Current State of Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certification.
Must have a valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s license prior to employment.
Conditions of Employment
Must pass a drug test, driver’s license verification, criminal history background check, and social security verification check.
