Project Overview Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner for TerraPower’s Natrium team. Selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for its Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program, Natrium will deploy a 345 MWe sodium fast reactor (SFR) with an innovative molten salt energy storage system that integrates solar and wind power. The combined reactor and storage can produce over 500 MWe of power.
Job Summary Plan, develop, and review electrical engineering design work; produce drawings and documentation; prepare design estimates; coordinate with clients; facilitate technical discussions; review key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries; solve complex technical issues; ensure designs comply with all regulations and standards.
Hybrid part‑time telework; requires at least three days of in‑person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.
Major Responsibilities
Electrical Physical Design: raceway design, equipment location and layout, C&R schedule inputting and update, conduit, aboveground raceway design.
Model equipment and commodities used in the electrical design.
Produce drawings and documentation for lighting, communications, grounding layout, grounding designs/calculations, and lightning protection systems.
Ensure electrical system designs comply with all applicable codes, regulations, and standards (e.g., National Electrical Code).
Interface with construction and subcontractors as needed.
Apply independent creative design using Bechtel and industry‑proven concepts and procedures.
Extract applicable 3D model data onto 2D sheets, annotate, and prepare drawings for construction use.
Perform calculations using AGI 32 for lighting layouts and ETAP for ground grid layouts.
Develop material specifications using SpecsIntact.
Education and Experience Requirements
AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 3‑4 years of experience, or 5‑6 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
Required Knowledge and Skills Basic Qualifications
U.S. Citizen.
Pass pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
Minimum Qualifications
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Extensive knowledge of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.
Experience in nuclear power plant design.
Proven 2D CAD and 3D modeling skills.
Experience with an electronic Cable Management System such as SETROUTE and ability to input and correct database entries.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Collaboration across disciplines.
Ability to manage conflicting deadlines and frequent interruptions.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Hands‑on use or coursework in a 3D electrical model design platform and 2D design.
Experience on Bechtel, DOD, or DOE projects.
