Overview Peoples Gas System is the fastest growing natural gas utility in the Southeast with a dynamic and inclusive workplace. Our Pipeline Locators accurately locate and mark PGS underground facilities to ensure public safety and prevent pipeline damages resulting from excavation work.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Receive and respond to excavation notices, adhering to company policies and state one‑call requirements using an electronic locate ticket management system.
Accurately locate and mark the location of underground assets on roadways, private property, easements, and other locations, using spray paints, flags, and equipment.
Operate electronic detection equipment to locate and mark underground pipeline facilities within prescribed accuracy limits.
Perform light excavation with hand tools to expose buried utilities when necessary.
Provide electronic map updates and facility record corrections to the GIS team as needed.
Assist with damaged facility investigations, root cause evaluations, data gathering, and completion of required documentation related to excavation damages.
Build and maintain relationships with excavation contractors to reduce damages.
Assist other employees as needed and be available for emergency locate response call‑out on a rotating or as‑needed basis.
What You Need To Succeed
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
Minimum of 1 year of underground utility locating experience (or all Operator Qualifications under the ASME B31Q Pipeline Personnel Qualification).
Ability to learn all job‑related skills and demonstrated knowledge of GIS utility map reading.
Proficiency in operating a computer and familiar with electronic ticket management systems.
Proven competency in operating electronic locating equipment.
Good working knowledge of state one‑call requirements and underground construction practices.
Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions and express ideas verbally and in writing.
Regularly use independent judgement in work assignments and decision‑making that affects company operations.
Understanding of excavation best practices, PHMSA and FPSC rules and regulations, and company safe work practices.
Competitive Edge
Minimum of 2 years of pipeline locating work experience.

Work Conditions
Physically capable of indoor/outdoor manual labor.
Ability to work overtime, including call‑out duty as business needs dictate.
Overtime work includes weekends, holidays, and call‑out/stand‑by schedule on a rotating basis.
Respond to emergency locate requests and/or other business needs within divisional guidelines; work outdoors for extended periods.
Physical Demands
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Ascend/descend ladders, stairs, and the like using feet, legs, hands, and arms.
Maintain balance when walking, standing, or crouching on/in narrow or slippery surfaces.
Operate a motor vehicle safely; enter/exit as required during an eight‑hour shift.
Carry objects up to 100 lbs.
Vision correctable to 20/40; hearing loss not greater than 40 decibels, etc. (summary of detailed demands).
Other requirements as listed.
Emergency Response Requirements Team members are required to participate in emergency response and recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to TECO Energy customers.
All pre‑employment screening, including a baseline medical examination, drug screening, and background check, will be conducted. The successful applicant will be required to pass the baseline medical examination and screening tests.
