Job Description : We are searching for a Senior Director to lead the R&D Strategy & Operations for our Digital & Robotics portfolio. This hybrid role encompasses strategic planning, budget management, and operational leadership, ensuring our research & development strategy is executed effectively across multiple platforms.
Responsibilities
Drive R&D budget planning and updates, coordinating full consolidation for Digital & Robotics R&D.
Serve as the key liaison with finance, partnering to deliver best‑in‑class R&D financial plans.
Lead business planning for special projects and critical initiatives, consolidating profitability and NPV analyses.
Administer uniform operating mechanisms and process improvements, setting up and owning meeting cadence and communications.
Shape a uniform partnership across Digital & Robotics R&D projects for Supply Chain & SCR reviews.
Maintain executional alignment across R&D and supporting functions/COEs.
Provide input and operational expertise for R&D management reviews, scenario development, and capital improvement assessment.
Own the planning and cadence of Digital & Robotics R&D leadership team meetings and ensure action item follow‑through.
Build knowledge of external R&D trends and best practices to inform leadership.
Consolidate and deliver R&D input for senior ad‑hoc requests, monthly reporting, and quarterly executive reviews.
Own the development and communication of R&D goals, ensuring alignment of G&O’s across the organization.
Drive strategic special initiatives to improve operational excellence and impact on innovation and growth.
Lead organizational town halls and communications processes for Digital & Robotics R&D.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s level degree or equivalent required.
15+ years of people leadership, preferably in medical device/orthopaedics or regulated industry.
Experience in process optimization for multi‑disciplinary systems in regulated environments.
Strong project and portfolio management skills in digital organizations.
Expertise in detailed orientation and organization.
Strong change leadership and collaboration skills.
Demonstrated succession management and accelerated innovation.
Business acumen in execution of strategic plans.
Ability to leverage relationships with key constituents to deliver tangible results.
Successful track record in driving delivery of key leveraged support services to product development.
Proven leadership in a highly matrixed business environment.
Influencing capabilities and indirect leadership of major change initiatives.
Commitment to cultural innovation and developing diverse and inclusive teams.
Effective decision‑making skills and experience in R&D transformations.
Up to 25% domestic and international travel required.
Compensation :
Base pay range: $178,000 – $307,050.
Eligible for an annual performance bonus and long‑term incentive program.

Paid time off: Vacation up to 120 hours per calendar year; Sick time up to 40 hours per year; Holiday pay up to 13 days; Work, Personal and Family Time up to 40 hours.
Notice:
Johnson & Johnson will separate our Orthopaedics business to establish DePuy Synthes, anticipated to complete within 18–24 months. Following the transaction, the appointed director will become an employee of DePuy Synthes, with employment governed by their processes, programs, and benefit plans.
